Fürstenfeldbruck underground garage

In Fürstenfeldbruck, an aged oak tree was given a new home. At its original location, where it had stood for the past 100 years, two apartment buildings with an underground garage are being constructed.

The city has no tree protection ordinance, so the oak could easily have been cut down.
However, the developer recognised the value of the tree and committed to preserving it.
For this reason, the team at Opitz International was commissioned to move the giant tree. Preparation for the move took a good year before the 100-ton colossus could be lifted by a heavy-duty crane to its new location. Here, the tree can continue to provide valuable benefits to people and nature for another 300 to 400 years.

"From an ecological perspective, oaks are very important trees. Around ten animal species use them as breeding and nesting grounds,"

confirms Lutz Popp, a project-accompanying expert from the State Horticultural Association.
