Nuremberg road construction
50-ton tree
The City of Nuremberg commissioned Team Opitz International to relocate a roughly 50-year-old linden tree, as it was in the way of a new road construction project. The operation involved a 250-ton mobile crane to move the tree to its new location.
The root ball of the approximately twelve-meter-tall tree had been carefully excavated and secured with a special structure beforehand.
Prepared in this way, the linden tree could be lifted along with its roots and the surrounding soil. The root ball measured approximately eight by eight meters and was one and a half meters deep.
The 50-ton load hovered from the crane hook to its new location. A small park will be created there in the near future, once the road construction and development of the new residential area in northwest Nuremberg are complete.
