Coburg Hofgarten

In the Coburg Hofgarten, not far from the Duke Alfred Fountain, stand two trees that visually stand out from the surrounding greenery: they are striking due to their reddish leaves. These are two copper beeches. They were planted there around 130 years ago and have grown into magnificent trees.
But the idyll is deceptive. "We are worried about the copper beeches," says Bernhard Ledermann, head of the Parks Department, during a site visit. He points to the trees' crowns, which are noticeably thinning. "Their vitality is in decline."
To preserve these trees, soil aeration with mycorrhizal vaccine was carried out.
