Grovesmühle Boarding School
25-year-old plane tree
Relocate, don't chainsaw – that was the motto a teacher initiative at the Grovesmühle boarding school in Saxony-Anhalt used to save their school tree.
A 25-year-old plane tree was slated to be removed to make way for an extension to the school cafeteria. Instead of sacrificing the tree to the saw, a long-serving teacher campaigned to save the healthy, magnificent shade provider. The team from Opitz International arrived on-site in the quiet town of Veckenstedt to take on the task. Under the amazed gaze of numerous students and teachers, the plane tree was lifted using the Optimal 3000 and transported to its new location on the school grounds.
The goal of this tree move was also to raise student awareness regarding sustainability and responsible stewardship of nature.
