The Opitz Story

From a young age, Dieter Opitz, a technology enthusiast with a deep connection to nature, showed a strong drive to optimise tools, machines, and processes in his professional environment. With healthy self-confidence, 196 DM in starting capital, and a wheelbarrow, he founded his own landscaping company in 1964. From that moment on, he set out to realise his vision of making daily horticultural work simpler, easier, and more efficient.

One particularly demanding task was the construction of his first tree spade. The requirements for low weight, high stability, maximum precision, and powerful technology posed an enormous challenge that many considered nearly impossible to solve.

Dieter Opitz is often described as incredibly stubborn – and rightly so. He was not deterred by pessimists and worked tirelessly. However, he was by no means unteachable. Over four decades, he and his team maintained a continuous dialogue with customers, took their wishes and suggestions seriously, tested new approaches, and modified and improved existing methods. This constant readiness to innovate earned the company numerous patents over the years.
